Hilaree Nelson is the first woman to climb Everest and Lhotse in 24 hours. She also made the first female ski descent of the Messner Couloir on Denali. We all know her from the adventure documentary “Down to Nothing” (E.O.F.T. 16/17). In this short video she reflects on an important mind shift in the world of adventure.
“A lot of things I’ve done are firsts, but only as a female first. Having that space to be the first female was really helpful in my career but when I hear the 25 year old athletes coming up they don’t want that female disclaimer any more. It was necessary but we’re past that. We can throw down as hard as the men.”
Time is changing – and so does expectation.
